The Recap by DCI Forge

Twenty twenty five was the closest Finals in the archive and nobody talks about it. Gus and Reed argue about why, and about which of the two races on a Finals field anyone remembers.

Inside Phantom Regiment's rebuild.
JD Shaw retired from Phantom Regiment's brass staff after 17 years and two rings. Regiment did not promote from within. Their headline hire came from outside the organization: Vince Oliver, off Bluecoats' music design staff.
Then they kept going. Five more hires landed in the same week. Four of those five came straight out of Santa Clara Vanguard. Two more came out of Mandarins.
Six hires in three days is not a caption fix. It is a design-staff transplant, and it landed on two corps sitting at very different points in their own rebuilds.
Also in this episode: how Santa Clara Vanguard are backfilling the seats that raid created, why Mandarins are the stranger case, what we can actually confirm about the Blue Devils percussion moves when reports differ, and the one corps that will not field in 2027.
Every claim here is checkable. The staff tracker and the talent-flow chart are at https://dciforge.com/staff - which is the point of doing this in September rather than waiting for June.

Semifinals night in Indianapolis, and the one where this desk says, respectfully, that we think the panel got two of these wrong. Blue Stars finished ahead of Phantom Regiment while losing the six craft captions. Boston Crusaders beat Santa Clara Vanguard after the effect sheets came back a coin flip. Plus: the cut line from both sides, where Pacific Crest and Madison Scouts each won the effect book and went home anyway; a deep dive on the percussion caption and what really happened to the Blue Devils drumline; ScoJo's return after fifty years; and the Finals preview.
